North West Province, South Africa

North-West Province is flat and brimming with wildlife and adventure for tourists. Every visitor should take time out to see the semi-desert plains of North-West, then the bushveld of Madikwe and Pilanesberg Game Reserves where the big five run wild and sunsets stay with you forever. Home to famous writer and eccentric, Herman Charles Bosman, this province will grow on the visitor with a visit to the Groot Marico, where most of his stories are set.

Mining and agriculture are big here too where platinum is found and sunflowers line the roads. The Hartebeespoort Dam is a primary water source for households, farms, factories and other businesses. Current research projects aim to determine its threats from pollution, exploitation and decreasing water supplies.
